-It’s beginning to look like there could be 2 shots of very warm temperatures across the Upper Midwest. The 1st one occurs this weekend and peaks during the early/middle part of next week.

All of Minnesota has seen cooler than average temperatures during the 1st half of August, although some cities have been much cooler compared to others.

Rainfall has been lacking this summer in the Twin Ports, details below.

As you can see, the summer and August rainfall totals are running below average. Our yearly precipitation total continues to be above average, but that number is fading quickly.
Note: The long range models continue to look pretty dry around here, so the chance for below average summer rainfall looks pretty good at this time. If things don’t begin to change, then drought conditions will likely worsen/expand over portions of Minnesota in coming weeks.

It stays dry this period with partly cloudy skies. Lows Tonight and Tomorrow Night will be in the 50s to around 60 degrees, but some spots will probably fall into the 40s. Highs on Saturday will be in the 70s and 80s. South or west winds are expected at 5 to 15 mph.

A cold front will stay west/north of our area during this period but it may get close enough to spawn a few showers or thunderstorms at times, mainly across Northern Minnesota. Looks pretty warm this period with highs in the 80s, possibly even a few 90s next Monday/Tuesday. Lows will be in the 50s and 60s Sunday Night and Monday Night.

Next Wednesday (21st) looks very warm, and then a cold front moves through resulting in a somewhat cooler airmass later next week (22nd-24th) After that, another surge of very warm air may move into the Upper Midwest (25th-26) Precipitation chances look pretty low at the moment with next Wednesday offering the best chance to see a few pop-up showers/thunderstorms as that aforementioned cold front tracks through the area. Expect near to above average temperatures through this period.
