Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A chilly early November day with a mix of clouds and sun throughout the area. High temperatures were in the upper 20s to mid 30s with winds generally out of the west or northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (November 6)
Some clouds and possible flurries over the Northland Tonight. Lows will be in the teens and 20s with northwest winds at 10 to 15 mph.
Thursday and Thursday Night (November 7)
Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected during this period. Could be some flurries around Tomorrow Morning. Highs will mainly be in the 30s with lows in the teens and 20s. Winds out of the northwest on Thursday will turn more southerly Thursday Night.
Extended Forecast – Confidence: Medium to High.
Friday through Sunday (November 8-10)
An area of low pressure is forecast to pass through the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest on Friday. The exact track of the low is still somewhat uncertain as the computer models have been shifting around between a more northern route, or a track that is somewhat further south. Either way it does look like there will be some precipitation around the Northland on Friday with possible flurries on Saturday.
Right now it looks like Northern Minnesota has the best chance to see the precipitation fall as snow on Friday with just enough cool air in place while rain or a rain/snow mix occurs from the Brainerd Lakes to I-35 corridor, North Shore, and also in Northwest Wisconsin.
Note: The potential is there for a 1-3″ snowfall from Friday Afternoon into Friday Night, mainly north of a Blackduck to Isabella line.
High temperatures on Friday will be in the 30s to lower 40s. Highs on Saturday and Sunday will mainly be in the 30s. Lows Friday Night will be in the 30s. Lows Saturday Night will be in the teens and 20s.
*My preliminary snowfall accumulation map for Friday, November 8, 2013.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Medium.
Below average temperatures are possible from the 11th-13th with near average temperatures from the 14th-16th. An overrunning snow event could affect portions of the Upper Midwest sometime between the 11th-13th, not sure how far north this will be though due to a strong area of high pressure off to our north/northwest, this may keep most of the snow away from the Northland.
