Looks like will see a rather large complex of rain and thunderstorms develop later today or this evening over the Northern Rockies and Northern Plains…Once this system develops it will likely track toward the east or east/southeast.

The greatest threat for severe thunderstorms should stay over the Dakotas and Western/Southern sections of Minnesota where damaging winds will be possible.

Here in the Northland it does not look very unstable so while there could be an embedded thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall, severe weather is not expected in Northeast Minnesota or Northwest Wisconsin tonight or Saturday morning.

Rain and isolated thunderstorms should be tracking through the Northland from west to east beginning late tonight, this precipitation will last through Saturday morning before exiting to the east Saturday afternoon.  Note:  It wouldn’t surprise me if we get some gusty winds as the rain tapers off on Saturday.  A lot of times with these thunderstorm complexes you tend to get a period of strong winds immediately behind the rain, so that could happen Saturday morning or early Saturday afternoon in parts of the area.

Will also be dealing with some fog especially near Lake Superior on Saturday.

The weather should start to improve a bit from west to east come Saturday afternoon but it may not be very pleasant most of Saturday near Lake Superior as onshore winds and fog possibly linger most of the day.  Temperatures on Saturday could stay in the 50s near Lake Superior while inland locations climb into the 60s and 70s.

Sunday is looking nicer compared to Saturday at least in the temperature department with widespread 70s expected in Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin.  Note:  A few spots might even climb into the 80s on Sunday.
