Weather Synopsis
Cold air is back, did you miss it? High pressure of 1030mb covered the northern Plains early this evening, and this high will pass through the upper Midwest tonight, shifting off to the south/east for Wednesday.
Cold tonight but nothing out of the ordinary for late November, no records will be set tonight even as temperatures drop into the single digits and teens. Highs Wednesday will be in the 20s which is roughly 5-7 degrees below normal for November 22.
Note: One of the bigger changes with Wednesday’s forecast is the fact that it does look like will get a little snow as a weakening area of low pressure drops SE through the northern Plains. Some warm air advection developing northeast of the surface low should be enough to kick off a bit of snow, but the air is dry, and it may take a while for the atmosphere to juice up enough before snow flakes reach the surface, if this process takes too long, then some of us may not get anything more than a few flurries, but there is potential that some parts of the Northland pick up around an inch of new snow Wednesday afternoon or Wednesday evening.
Thanksgiving continues to look dry with near to slightly below normal highs in the mid 20s to around 30 degrees. The next system to affect us will do so on Friday as a powerful area of low pressure remains north of the border, this system should bring some rain or a brief mix of precipitation to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin Friday which will be followed by strong winds, cold air advection and snow showers for Friday night (Quite similar to what happened last night)
Note: Duluth, Minnesota had back to back above normal high temperatures Monday and Tuesday, November 20-21. First time with back to back above normal highs since October 22-23! By the way, today’s high actually occurred at 12:22 AM (34 degrees) Temperatures have fallen ever since!
