Weather Synopsis
Mostly sunny skies across much of northern Minnesota this afternoon with temperatures in the single digits and teens. Mostly cloudy skies for the rest of the Northland today with highs topping out in the upper teens to middle 20s. Lake effect snow showers have been trying to push onshore off Lake Superior today but this hasn’t been very successful with at most some flurries or very light snow in spots close to the lake with little to no accumulation.
Tonight: Scattered snow showers and flurries near Lake Superior with most of the activity shifting to the North Shore as winds veer from north to southeast. There is a 10-18 degree difference between lake temps and 850mb temps late this afternoon, and this is enough to develop lake effect snow, but dry air moving over the area should keep any lake effect snow on the light side tonight with maybe an inch or so of new snow by morning along the North Shore. A wide range in lows for tonight with single digits and teens below zero except near Lake Superior where lows will be in the single digits and teens above zero.
Friday: Early morning snow showers along the North Shore followed by some snow showers or flurries moving west-east across the Northland during the afternoon-evening hours as a cold front moves through the area. Little to no snow accumulation is expected. Highs will be in the mid teens to mid 20s with lows in the single digits and teens.
Saturday: Still can’t get rid of the flakes! More flurries possible but nothing that would accumulate. Highs in the single digits and teens.
