Partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies were found over the Northland today with highs in the teens with a few locations getting into the lower 20s in northwest Wisconsin. The first of what will be two cold frontal passages through Sunday occurred today, and this front did bring with it a little bit of flurry/light snow action but very little accumulation.
Tonight: Light snow showers and flurries over northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin late this afternoon will end early this evening. Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies on the way for tonight with lows ranging from the teens below to around 10 above zero.
Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy, can’t rule out a few flurries. Highs will be in the teens with lows ranging from the single digits below to teens above zero.
Christmas Eve (Sunday) A few flurries and snow showers with little or no accumulation expected. Highs will be in the single digits in northern Minnesota to around 20 degrees in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. Will see cold front number 2 move south through the Northland on Sunday, and arctic air will pour into the area behind this cold front.
Note: Arctic air is on the way for next week. Potential is there for 3-4 days in a row with below zero temperatures in Duluth (Perhaps 72+ consecutive hours subzero) Wind chills will be even colder, in fact dangerously cold at times. Subzero temps arrive early Monday morning in the Twin Ports, and could stay below zero through Thursday morning per model data.
