Arctic air is pouring south into the Northland on this Christmas Eve. 850mb temperatures early this evening ranged from -32 C in eastern Manitoba Province to -24 C in northern Minnesota. Highs today were in the single digits in far northern Minnesota with teens to around 20 degrees farther south. Some light snow has occurred in parts of the area today with snowfall accumulations of an inch or two although heavier amounts of around 6 inches have been reported near Cornucopia, Wisconsin.
Tonight through Tuesday: The big story is the arctic air combined with the dangerously cold wind chills. 850mb temperatures will range from -25 to around -33 C with lows tonight, Monday night and Tuesday night in the teens and 20s below, but a few of the typical cold spots in our area could fall into the 30s below. Highs Monday and Tuesday should remain in the single digits and teens below zero. Wind gusts to around 15-20 mph at times will cause wind chills to drop to dangerous levels, and will range from 20 below to as low as 45 below zero.
