Weather Synopsis

Turned out to be a real nice day after the dusting of snow which fell earlier in the day.  Warmer temperatures have finally moved into the upper Midwest today with highs in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin ranging from the mid 20s to 30 degrees.  Strong warm air advection is occurring today with late afternoon 850mb temps of -6 to -8C across the Northland but +2 to +6C H85 temperatures are sitting to our southwest, and will advect into our area by Wednesday morning.

Tonight and Wednesday:  The only weather concern through Wednesday is the potential for some low clouds and or patchy fog that may develop because of the warmer air moving over the colder dense snow pack to our south, so far there has been little to no stratus development as far south as Nebraska and Iowa today, so that is a good sign! Partly cloudy skies are expected for tonight with partly to mostly cloudy skies for Wednesday.  Lows tonight will be in the teens to around 20 degrees with highs Wednesday in the 30s, but a few locations could approach 40 degrees.

Wednesday night and Thursday:  An area of low pressure will head east/southeast out of central Manitoba Province and is forecast to reach eastern upper Michigan by Thursday morning — A cold front connected to this low will drop south and through the Northland Wednesday night.  Some light snow and flurries are expected to develop in northern Minnesota late Wednesday night, pushing farther south/east for Thursday.  Note:  Snowfall amounts should remain less than one inch the way it looks now.  Low temperatures Wednesday night will range from the teens in northern Minnesota to the 20s in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.  Temperatures during the day Thursday should hold fairly steady from Wednesday night’s lows.
