Here’s my snowfall forecast for tonight through Sunday — Greatest amounts along the North Shore, especially northeast of Silver Bay where some locations could see 4 to 8 inches of snow due to some lake effect/lake enhancement.

Weather Synopsis for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
A short period of sun this Saturday morning but clouds have been on the increase once again this afternoon as a clipper approaches the area. Very cold temperatures continued today with highs in the upper teens to lower 20s.
Snow on the way tonight as low pressure over central North Dakota moves east across Minnesota and out over Lake Superior by Sunday afternoon.
With the cold airmass in place, snow ratios should range from around 15:1 to 18:1, and with the projected modeled precip totals, much of the Northland can expect anywhere from a half inch to around 2 inches of new snow by Sunday morning with some higher amounts likely along the North Shore of Lake Superior due to a southerly wind coming off the lake later tonight through Sunday morning which will cause some heavier lake effect/enhanced snowfall. There could also be some lake enhanced snow that develops near Lake Mille Lacs in east-central Minnesota tonight with winds out of the S-SE, if that happens, then a few locations near Lake Mille Lacs could see more than 2 inches of snow.
850mb temps around -13C with water temps over Lake Superior around +5C will be more than enough to get some lake effect snow to develop along the North Shore tonight into Sunday morning.
The snow tapers off to flurries and snow showers from W-E during the day Sunday with little additional accumulation expected for Sunday afternoon.
Lows tonight will mainly be in the teens with highs Sunday in the 20s.
Note: More very cold temps on the way for Monday-Tuesday, then a brief thaw is looking more likely to occur for mid-week, highs could climb well above freezing especially on Thursday, then another cold shot for late next week, followed by what could be a more persistent thaw during the week of Thanksgiving.
