The average date for first 60 degree high temperature in Duluth is April 8. Will see if we can hit 60 degrees on Tuesday, if we do it would be the first time this year with a high of at least 60 degrees at the Duluth Airport.

A midweek system still looks like it will affect portions of the Northland with some rain expected Wednesday into Thursday morning. The heaviest rain could impact parts of east-central Minnesota into northern Wisconsin the way it looks now.

Precipitation amounts with the midweek system have come down a bit compared to how it looked 24 hours ago, this is due to a quicker exit to the system. On Sunday it looked like this system would linger into Thursday and possibly even into Friday, but today’s model guidance shows this system exiting to the east by Thursday, with most of the precipitation in our area falling Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Weather Synopsis for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A zonal (west to east flow) covered the northern Plains and upper Midwest today. Areas of low pressure were centered to our northwest (western Manitoba province) and over the Rockies/western High Plains. Warm air advection is occurring ahead of these lows which has resulted in some light rain and drizzle over parts of north-central Minnesota this afternoon. Otherwise the area saw increasing cloudiness today with highs in the 40s to around 50 degrees, but temperatures did fall into the mid and upper 30s where precipitation developed this afternoon. Winds today were out of the south or east at around 5 to 15 mph, the easterly flow kept it cooler near Lake Superior today with highs in the mid to upper 30s.
Tonight: Light rain, drizzle and some wet snow will continue in parts of the area this evening, this precipitation will end by late evening or during the overnight hours. Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the lower 20s to lower 30s.
Tuesday: Temperatures should warm up rather nicely during the afternoon with 925mb temps climbing to around +10C and 850mb temps getting up to around +5C. We’re looking at daytime highs in the 50s with some lower 60s likely as well! Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected Tuesday with a variable wind direction at around 10 mph. Note: Temperatures near Lake Superior could be cooler Tuesday due to the rather light winds which may help active a lake breeze, if this happens then temps near the lake will probably be in the upper 30s to middle 40s.
Wednesday: Low pressure approaching from the southwest will increase the lift across the upper Midwest which leads to the development of rain during the day. A chilly and increasing northeast wind off Lake Superior will keep temps on the cool side near the lake where temperatures are expected to be in the 30s on Wednesday, highs across the rest of the area should be in the 40s to around 50 degrees.
Note: Temperatures aloft are forecast to cool to around 0 to -2C Wednesday evening-Thursday morning which could result in some snow mixing in with the rain during that aforementioned time frame, the most likely areas to see a possible rain/snow mix would be over the Arrowhead and in parts of northwest Wisconsin. Heavier precipitation rates and possible evaporating cooling processes could cause the rain/snow mix to switch over to all snow for a time Wednesday evening-Thursday morning over the Arrowhead and parts of northwest Wisconsin with a low chance for some accumulation of wet slushy snow.
