A strong low-pressure system, measuring 990mb or 29.23 inches, was near Kansas City, MO at 7 AM today. It’s expected to move east-northeast, passing close to Chicago, IL by early this evening.

Gusty north winds of 15 to 30 mph are expected in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin from today through Monday, with stronger gusts up to 45 mph near Lake Superior. These winds will cause blowing and drifting snow, and at times may create whiteout conditions, especially in parts of northwest Wisconsin.

Snow will continue through Monday morning in northwest Wisconsin, while in east central Minnesota up to Duluth, most of it will taper off by tonight.

As of 8 AM, the heaviest snow is falling from parts of southern Minnesota through central Wisconsin into upper Michigan, with areas of freezing rain and sleet showing up in those pink-shaded regions.

Radar loop ends 7:54 AM Sunday, March 15, 2026.

With northeast winds and plenty of cold air sweeping over Lake Superior (850mb temperatures around -10°C), a narrow but fairly intense band of lake-effect snow has formed south of Duluth and Superior this morning. This band will likely stick around through the day and into Monday morning, though it will likely shift and vary in intensity.

Here’s my snowfall forecast through early Monday morning, showing additional amounts on top of what has already fallen.

Much of northwest Wisconsin is expecting between 3 and 6 inches of additional snow, with some areas likely seeing higher amounts.

Duluth area: About 1 to 2 inches of additional snow.
