Impacts:
Wind chill values 35 below to 45 below with a few locations possibly as low as 50 below late Tonight and early Tomorrow Morning. Frost bite can occur in 5 to 20 minutes under these conditions. Be prepared for extreme cold conditions if attempting to venture outdoors and ensure animals have adequate shelter.
**A wind chill warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken**

Today’s Weather Summary for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin
Arctic airmass remains over the Northland Today although high temperatures were about 10 degrees warmer than what we saw on Monday. Highs Today ranged from around zero to the single digits below. Skies were partly to mostly sunny and there was even a tiny bit of light snow earlier This Morning over parts of the area. Winds Today were out of the west or northwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Tonight through Wednesday Night (January 7-8)
High pressure will pass over the Upper Midwest during this period. Expect clear to partly cloudy skies with frigid temperatures continuing Tonight and Tomorrow Night with lows in the teens, 20s, and 30s below. Highs Tomorrow will be in the single digits below to single digits above zero so will add a few more degrees to the daytime highs Tomorrow compared to Today. Winds will be out of the northwest or west at 5 to 15 mph Tonight and Wednesday. Winds Tomorrow Night will be out of the south or west around 10 mph.

Thursday through Saturday (January 9-11)
Expect near to above average temperatures during this period with daytime highs in the teens and 20s on Thursday and in the 20s and 30s Friday and Saturday. Lows Thursday Night will be in the single digits and teens. Lows Friday Night will be in the teens. A weak disturbance passing north of our area on Thursday shouldn’t really affect the Northland’s weather. A stronger system coming out of the Southern/Central Plains from late Friday into Saturday looks like it will track too far south-east of our area to bring any snow or mixed precipitation to the Northland. So Friday and Saturday look generally dry at the moment.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: High.
(January 12-17)
An active weather pattern is expected through this period as multiple strong storm systems track west-east through Canada. Since the Northland will be south of these storms this will reduce the threat for any widespread/significant precipitation. Instead will probably see a few snow showers or mixed showers occur from time to time but any precipitation that falls this far south shouldn’t amount to very much. Above average temperatures on the 12th with near to above average temperatures from the 13th-15th. Temperatures could fall below average then from the 16th-17th.
