No doubt that it was cooler Today, but temperatures were still above average for mid March. Highs Today were in the upper 30s to mid 40s under mostly sunny to partly sunny skies. The big weather story were the winds. West or northwest winds at 15 to 30 mph Today with higher gusts. Weather map late Today featured an area of high pressure averaging 1032mb over Southeastern South Dakota.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (March 17)
A weak frontal boundary will be over Northern Minnesota and Western Lake Superior Tonight while high pressure moves east/southeast out of Eastern South Dakota. Clear to partly cloudy skies will be found over the Northland Tonight with lows in the 20s to lower 30s but teens are possible along the Borderland. Winds will be out of the west at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts This Evening.
Wednesday and Wednesday Night (March 18)
A weak disturbance will move SE out of the Northern Plains during this period while a frontal boundary retreats into Ontario. Partly to mostly cloudy skies can be expected Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night.
There is a chance for a few showers in Southern parts of the area with dry weather prevailing elsewhere.
Highs on Wednesday will be in the 30s and 40s with lows Wednesday Night in the 30s with 20s in far Northeast Minnesota. Winds Tomorrow will be out of the west at 5 to 15 mph. Winds Tomorrow Night will be out of the south or east at 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday through Saturday (March 19-21)
A few light showers are possible in parts of the area on Thursday although most of us should remain dry.
A low pressure system and cold front will be affecting the area on Friday — This system could bring some rain showers or mixed rain/snow to the Northland. Note: The best chance for the rain-snow mix appears to be over far Northern Minnesota the way it looks now. Dry weather returns for Saturday.
Highs on Thursday and Friday are forecast to be in the 40s and 50s with 30s in far Northern Minnesota. Lows Thursday Night will be in the 30s. Lows Friday Night will be in the teens and 20s.
Chillier airmass arrives on Saturday with highs in the 20s and 30s.

Still watching the 23rd-25th time frame for the possibility for some rain or snow but this does not look like it would be a major storm system. Temperatures should be fairly close to normal from the 22nd-27th
