April 17, 2015 Weather Report – Still mild in most of the Northland on Saturday but it will be breezy and much cooler near Lake Superior; Rain moves in late Saturday Night

The forecasters at the Weather Prediction Center have outlined portions of Northern Minnesota in a Slight probability for snowfall totals of at least 4″ on Monday (Blue area on the map below)

Note:  Much of the Northland will also get rain this weekend with totals of around a half inch or more possible from Saturday Night through Sunday Night.















Weather Summary for April 17, 2015
Location:  Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin

Unseasonably warm spring temperatures continued once again Today with high temperatures mainly in the upper 60s to the low and even mid 70s! Sky conditions were generally mostly sunny to sunny and winds were out of the west, north, or southwest at 5 to 15 mph.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence:  Medium to High.

Tonight (April 17)

Stays dry Tonight under clear to partly cloudy skies.  An area of high pressure will moves into Northern Ontario which will cause winds to swing around the east or northeast during the night.  Low temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s and as I mentioned above will see winds turn to the east or northeast later in the night at 5-15 mph with higher gusts developing near Lake Superior.

Saturday and Saturday Night (April 18)

High pressure will be centered to our N/NE while several areas of low pressure move into the Northern and Central Plains.  Dry on Saturday under mostly sunny to partly sunny skies.  High temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s but it will be much cooler near Lake Superior.  Winds will be out of the east or northeast at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts near Lake Superior.

Clouds increase Saturday Night and rain is expected to spread north/east into the Northland during the night.  Low temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s with east winds at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts continuing near Lake Superior.

Extended Forecast – Confidence:  Medium to High.

Sunday through Tuesday (April 19-21)

Rain at times on Sunday as a couple areas of low pressure track slowly through the Upper Midwest, high temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s with cooler temperatures near Lake Superior.

Low pressure exits to our north/east Sunday Night — This system will then remain just to our north/east for Monday and Tuesday while the surface low deepens.

Additional chances for rain will persist in the Northland Sunday Night, Monday, and Tuesday.  As temperatures drop, and thickness values lower, some areas in the Northland will likely see a rain/snow mix or all snow at times during Monday and Tuesday.

 Note:  There is a chance for a few inches of wet slushy snowfall Monday and Tuesday in parts of Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin.

Temperatures Sunday Night and Monday will be in the 30s and 40s.  Lows Monday Night will be in the 20s and 30s with highs on Tuesday in the 30s and 40s.

Long Range Forecast – Confidence:  High.

(April 22-27)

Below average temperatures are forecast from the 22nd-27th.  No big storms are expected at this time, but we could see a few rain or snow showers from time to time.

.Tonight…  Mostly clear.  Turning breezy and cooler.  Low 37 to 42.  Wind northwest at 10 to 15 mph becoming east to northeast at 15 to 25 mph after Midnight.

.Saturday…  Breezy and cooler.  Mostly sunny.  High 53 to 58 but cooler near Lake Superior.  Wind east to northeast at 15 to 30 mph.

.Saturday Night…  Breezy.  Increasing cloudiness.  Rain developing after Midnight.  Low 35 to 40.  Wind east at 15 to 30 mph.

.Sunday…  Occasional rain.  High 40 to 45 but cooler near Lake Superior.

.Sunday Night…  Rain possible.  Low 35 to 40.

.Monday…  Rain possible.  High 40 to 45.

.Monday Night…  Rain or snow possible.  Low 30 to 35.

.Tuesday…  Rain or snow possible.  High 38 to 43.
