Weather Synopsis
Finally seeing the pattern shift a bit today as the frontal boundary which has been over the Northland during the past few days begins to move toward the south/east as a strong upper level trough pivots N/NE out of the northern Rockies. Mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies were found over the area today with scattered showers along with a few thunderstorms affecting parts of the area. Highs today ranged from the 50s in far northern Minnesota with 60s and 70s farther south — A few locations in northwest Wisconsin made it into the upper 70s and lower 80s today.
For tonight scattered showers and a few thunderstorms this evening with a few lingering showers after midnight in far northern Minnesota and over southern/eastern portions of northwest Wisconsin. Mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies tonight with lows in the 40s and 50s. Cold front will exit the Northland to the south/east by late tonight with high pressure building into the area Sunday.
Partly to mostly sunny skies on the way for Sunday with highs in the 50s to lower 60s. The next system which could bring some rain showers to parts of the Northland will come on Monday otherwise cool temperatures with highs in the 50s with a few 60s in northern Minnesota.
Note: As I mentioned above the potential for a rainier weather pattern returns during the 19th-23rd time frame. An amplified pattern could develop with a large trough to our west with a ridge to our southeast, this would put our area in a southwest flow aloft with warm and humid air flowing north on southerly winds — This combined with a couple areas of low pressure with their warm fronts and cold fronts could lead to occasional showers and some thunderstorms in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin during the aforementioned time frame. The setup that may develop later next week could lead to some heavy rainfall over parts of the upper Midwest.
