We’ve got a nice warmup coming to the Northland late this weekend into early next week as high temperatures climb into the 30s, with even a few 40s possible next Monday and Tuesday, February 22-23. Note: The last time it was above freezing in Duluth was on January 21 (high of 33 degrees) Looks like will get back up above freezing in Duluth early next week.
- Patchy light snow and flurries will continue in the Northland tonight and Thursday but accumulations will be minimal, ranging from a dusting to around an inch. We might see another weak system pass through the region in the Sunday-Monday time frame with a little more snow, but accumulations look pretty light (if any occurs at all)
- Lows tonight will be a lot milder compared to what we’ve seen the last 2 weeks or so. Lows tonight will range from around 6 below to 7 above zero. Note: Doesn’t look like will drop below zero in Duluth Thursday morning (February 18) assuming that happens it would be the first time since February 4 where the low temperature didn’t drop below zero in Duluth.
- Highs Thursday and Friday will mainly be in the teens which is still below normal for mid-February, but a whole lot better compared to the last 2 weeks.
- No big storms affecting the Northland through the middle of next week, but after that things might change a bit, with the GFS and Euro models showing a more interesting system late next week (~February 25-27) but plenty of time to watch the trends on that one.
18z NAM 3km simulated radar forecast thru 6 PM Thursday shows some light snow (blue colors on animation below) affecting parts of the Northland tonight and Thursday.

Still have quite a bit of arctic air sitting well to our north today, but no signs this will be moving south into our area at least through next week.
