A long duration winter storm brought widespread heavy snow totals to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin over the past few days.
Snow began falling in Duluth around daybreak on Sunday (March 24th) and snow continued to fall Monday and Tuesday with a few brief breaks mixed in. We also saw some freezing rain and ice pellets in Duluth Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
The official snowfall total for Duluth from this winter storm was 17.3 inches (National Weather Service location on top of the hill), but there were several reports of snowfall totals ranging from around 18 inches to nearly 25 inches in other parts of Duluth.

This winter storm also brought widespread precipitation totals of 1 to 2 inches or more to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with a half inch or more of precipitation in northern Minnesota per MRMS data.
Total precipitation in Duluth from March 24-26 was 1.67 inches.
Before this storm hit, Duluth was running -1.83 inches below normal in precipitation for 2024, but as of Tuesday, March 26th that deficit had dropped to -0.31″ below normal.
