Drought persists in Minnesota and Wisconsin, yet there has been some improvement, with a reduction in the severity of drought conditions reported in this week’s drought monitor.
Minnesota
- Severe drought now affects 46% of the state, a decrease from 51% the previous week.
- Currently, 83% of the state is experiencing moderate drought conditions, a decrease from 90% the previous week.
- 99% of the state remains Abnormally Dry, with no change from the previous week.
Wisconsin
- Severe drought conditions now affect 14% of the state, a decrease from 31% the previous week.
- The state’s Moderate Drought coverage has decreased to 56%, a significant reduction from 100% in the previous week.
- The entire state remains in a condition of Abnormal Dryness, with no change from the previous week.
The two-week drought monitor class change for the Northland shows a one-class improvement in areas marked green and a one-class degradation in the regions highlighted in yellow.

Ashland, WI: +0.40″ above normal
Duluth, MN: +0.09″ above normal
International Falls, MN: -0.34″ below normal
Brainerd, MN: -0.20″ below normal
Hibbing, MN: -0.13″ below normal
Note: Since September 1st, Duluth has received 4.94 inches less precipitation than normal, and International Falls has received 0.42 inches less than normal.
