Very strong winds affected northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin early this morning. This was especially true along the North Shore and Arrowhead. Wind gusts near 70 mph were reported in Silver Bay and at the Bay of Grand Marais.
Wind gusts topped 50 mph in Duluth, while a gust to 63 mph was reported on the Blatnik Bridge (i-535).

High winds during the night and early morning have caused power outages in parts of northeast Minnesota.
As of approximately noon today, Lake Country Power reported 17 outages impacting 622 members.

- 8:00 AM: Non-Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 1 ENE Tofte, MN (Cook County) Medium sized tree fell on powerline.
- 4:00 AM: Non-Thunderstorm Wind Damage. 7 NNW Winton, MN (St. Louis County) Spruce tree blown down. Diameter was at least a foot.
Strong winds affected parts of the Northland earlier today. A shot of strong cold air advection and strong pressure rises caused these winds. There was also a very tight pressure gradient behind an area of low pressure. This low-pressure area passed northeast of our region earlier today.
