Low temperatures in the Northland will drop to the single digits, teens, and 20s below zero tonight, but this cold snap is expected to end by Friday morning, likely marking the last subzero temperatures until sometime next week.
- Extreme Cold Warning from Midnight tonight to 9 AM Wednesday for parts of far northwest Wisconsin and east central Minnesota with wind chills of 40 to 45 below zero expected.
- Cold Weather Advisory from Midnight tonight to 9 AM Wednesday for parts of northern and northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with wind chills of 30 to 40 below zero expected.
Temperatures will remain on the cold side through Wednesday, but we do have some warm air advection approaching from the northeast today, and that warm air advection will probably squeeze out a little snow in parts of the Northland on Wednesday.
850mb temperatures today range from about -6°C near James Bay, Canada, to -22°C in northern Minnesota, and -26°C in parts of the Dakotas.
Highs on Wednesday will be in the single digits to low teens above zero in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. While this is still below normal for late February, it is a bit warmer than recent temperatures.
This looks worse than what it will be, but some light snow is possible on Wednesday in parts of the Northland. With very dry and cold air in place and a less than ideal DGZ (dendritic growth zone), snow that falls should be light, with small snowflakes resulting in minimal snow accumulation.

Snow may accumulate from a trace to an inch on Wednesday in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, including Duluth.
A snowy system is moving east across parts of the central Plains and Midwest today, bringing snow accumulations of 1 to 6 inches.
