The pattern is currently highly amplified, and it doesn’t seem to show any signs of breaking down anytime soon.
There’s a trough to the west and another to the east, with a large ridge nestled right in between.
On Monday, a trough will move northeast into the upper Midwest, but it will weaken as it encounters a lingering ridge over the Great Lakes. This likely means the Northland won’t see much rain on Monday, thanks to the combination of weak height falls and lift. However, warm, humid, and unstable air should be abundant in the area, which could still result in a few showers and thunderstorms by Monday and Monday evening.
Widespread rain is expected near the path of the surface and upper-level lows, where stronger lift will occur through Monday morning over parts of the Dakotas, with potential rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches or more.

We could see a better chance for some rain in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin sometime mid to late next week, although models have been inconsistent lately on how this pattern will set up for later next week. Either way, it looks to be a pattern that features quite a bit of blocking, similar to what we’re currently seeing.

After spending most of the day under low clouds and fog in Duluth, the sun finally broke through this afternoon. It first appeared on top of the hill, and by late afternoon, even the areas below the hill experienced some sunshine, but more fog will be developing tonight and will likely stick around through Sunday morning, possibly beyond that time.

Fog is expected to redevelop near Lake Superior tonight, spreading farther inland and reducing visibility to a mile or less in the darker shaded areas shown on the loop below.
The fog should lift sometime between late morning and early afternoon on Sunday.
