Blizzard Hits the North Shore: Latest Snowfall Totals

A clipper low moved through the Northland from Thursday evening into early Friday morning, delivering blizzard conditions to the North Shore, including Duluth, and dumping several inches of snow across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. The heaviest snowfall hit the Twin Ports and extended along the North Shore of Lake Superior. This clipper was unusual for the heavy snow and intense blizzard conditions it produced, as clippers typically bring lighter snow.

Note: In less than a month, or since February 17th, Duluth has gotten about 30 inches of snow, which is more than the 22 inches we saw in December and January combined.

Snowfall totals from Thursday evening through Friday morning, March 12-13, 2026, ending around 8 a.m. on the 13th.

…High Winds…

Early Friday morning, wind gusts from the east to northeast in the Twin Ports reached speeds of about 45 to 55 mph.
