Freeze and frost alerts have been issued for early Friday morning for nearly all of the Northland except the North Shore.
In areas with a freeze warning, temperatures might dip to about 30 degrees, while regions under a frost advisory could experience lows between 32 and 34 degrees.
Friday morning temperatures in Duluth are expected to range from 34 to 39 degrees, with ‘warmer’ 40s near Lake Superior where frost isn’t anticipated.
In Duluth, we still haven’t hit the first 32-degree temperature of the season, even though the average date for that is October 1. In 2025, it happened on October 7, in 2024 on October 14, and in 2023 on October 16.

A cold front pushed through the area earlier today, bringing cooler air and brisk northwest winds. High temperatures this afternoon were 10 to 20 degrees lower than those observed Wednesday afternoon.

The widespread 70s from Wednesday afternoon were replaced by much cooler temperatures today, with highs ranging from the 50s to low and mid 60s. Those temperatures are right around average for October 1st.

A clipper-like system will pass through the area on Saturday, bringing some showers along the way. While heavy rain is unlikely, there will probably be occasional passing showers throughout the day.
