A widespread 1 to 2 inches of rain has fallen today in north-central areas of Minnesota.

Rainfall of about half an inch was reported today in Duluth.

Less rain in northwest Wisconsin so far today.

Hibbing, Minnesota recorded a new 24-hour rainfall record today with 1.70 inches as of 6 PM. The old record for April 28th was 1.15 inches from 1938.

Today, there have been no severe thunderstorm or tornado warnings in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, even though there are moderate and enhanced risks in southern parts of the Northland, including east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

The chances that we see any severe weather in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin continue to diminish early this evening despite the favorable parameters that have developed for severe weather.

Although isolated severe storms are possible before midnight, the overall risk of severe weather, including tornadoes, has greatly decreased in eastern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.

Showers and embedded thunderstorms will continue over parts of the Northland this evening, with some lingering light rain overnight before we dry out on Tuesday.

Winds will be increasing out of the northwest tonight, with gusts reaching 20 to 35 mph before diminishing Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures by 7 AM Tuesday will have fallen to the upper 20s and 30s across the Northland.

Note the blue areas in far northern Minnesota and far northern Wisconsin, indicating possible light snow early Tuesday morning, but little to no accumulation is expected.
