Another wave in the northwest flow aloft will move southeast across the upper Midwest on Wednesday morning, bringing a light touch of snow. This system appears to be tracking a bit farther west than today’s, so only the southern parts of the Northland are likely to see a dusting, with totals of an inch or less.
We might see a few flurries in Duluth Wednesday morning, but little to no accumulation is expected. As for tonight, the freezing mist we’ve been seeing this afternoon should come to an end this evening.
Duluth got 0.8 inches of snow today, bringing the December total to 8.9 inches—9.2 inches below average. This December has seen about two inches more snow than last December.
Today in Duluth, the snowfall ratio reached an impressive 20:1, with only 0.04 inches of liquid precipitation fluffing up into 0.8 inches of snow.
December 2025 will be the third December in a row with below-average snowfall in Duluth. The last time we had above-average snowfall in December was in 2022, when a record-breaking 44.9 inches of snow fell.

There’s a noticeable temperature gradient today from northeast to southwest, with subzero temperatures across central Canada and in the 40s in western and southern South Dakota.
A clipper system moved southeast today between the arctic air to the north and the milder air to the southwest, bringing some fluffy snow to northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. A bit of pesky freezing mist also created icy conditions, with temperatures stuck in the teens.

The Northland is set for a frigid Wednesday night, with temperatures likely to drop anywhere from about -5 to -20 degrees.

The EPS and GEFS models are showing a noticeable split in next week’s temperature outlook for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, with the EPS suggesting milder conditions and the GEFS favoring a cooler trend.
We’ll see how the models trend over the next few days.
