*LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING*

A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST This Evening for the following Counties in Minnesota. Lake and Cook. The warning has been extended to include all of those Counties. Some cities included in the warning are: Grand Portage MN…Hovland MN…Grand Marais MN…Lutsen MN…Tofte MN…Schroeder MN…Little Marais MN…Finland MN…Silver Bay MN…Beaver Bay MN…Murphy City MN…Whyte MN…Norshor Junction MN…Wales MN…Castle Danger MN…Two Harbors MN…Larsmont MN…And Knife River MN…

Persistent light snow will continue to fall in the warning area through This Evening but with east to southeast winds in place coming off Lake Superior, locally heavy lake effect snow showers will continue at times. The heaviest snow so far has been between Taconite Harbor and Lutsen, also affecting the city of Schroeder and Tofte. Snowfall accumulations of 1-3″ have been reported as of mid-Evening Sunday with up to 5″ of snow already reported in Schroeder in Southwestern Cook County Minnesota.

Expect total snowfall accumulations to range from 5-11″ in the warning area by This Evening with locally higher amounts possible.

The threat for heavier lake effect or lake enhanced snow bands are forecast to begin shifting southwest down the North Shore of Lake Superior Today as winds become more easterly, and then east-northeast.

Visibilities will drop to one quarter mile or less at times in the heavier snow showers with hourly snowfall rates possibly reaching 1″.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning has been issued from 6 AM CST This Morning until Midnight CST Tuesday Night for the following Counties in Northwest Wisconsin. Douglas and Bayfield. Some cities included in the warning are: Superior WI…South Range WI…Pattison Park WI…Patzau WI…Poplar WI…Brule WI…Hawthorne WI…Solon Springs WI…Wascott WI…Port Wing WI…Cornucopia WI…Bayfield WI…Washburn WI…Iron River WI…Moquah WI…Grand View WI…And Cable WI…

Light snow will continue to develop across the warning area through the Morning hours. Expect heavier lake effect or lake enhanced snow bands to occur from This Afternoon through late Tuesday Afternoon as winds become east to northeast later Today, and then north to northeast on Tuesday.

The greatest accumulations are expected to be south/east of the city of Superior.

Total snowfall accumulations of 2-6″ are expected across the warning area by Tuesday Evening with localized amounts from 6-10″ possible in the favored snowbelt areas across Northern portions of Douglas and Bayfield Counties.

*WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY*

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until Noon CST Tuesday for the following Counties in Minnesota. Southern St. Louis and Carlton. Some cities included in the advisory are: Duluth MN…Arnold MN…French River MN…Brookston MN…Floodwood MN…Esko MN…Cloquet MN…Cromwell MN…And Moose Lake MN…

Light snow will continue to fall across the advisory area from Today through Tuesday. East to southeast winds coming off Lake Superior will cause locally heavier lake enhanced snow to continue This Morning from Northern parts of the city of Duluth through Arnold and French River. Winds will become east to northeast by This Afternoon and will remain from the east-northeast This Evening which may cause heavier lake effect or lake enhanced snow showers to shift farther south into the West Duluth, Proctor, Esko, and Fond Du Lac areas. Winds are forecast to become more north-northeast by Tuesday Morning which should shift the heavier lake effect snow to areas south and east of the Twin Ports.

Total snowfall accumulations are forecast to range from 3-6″ by Tuesday in the advisory area, but isolated higher amounts of 6-9″ could occur, especially in Northern parts of Duluth up through Arnold and French River.

Visibilities will drop to under a mile at times in the heavier snow showers.

Light to at occasionally moderate snow will persist in the advisory area Today with total snow accumulations of 3-6″ expected by Tonight when the snow should begin to taper off from north to south. Isolated higher amounts of 6-8″ could occur, especially over parts of Cass, Crow Wing, and Aitkin Counties Minnesota.

Note: Expect snow covered and slippery roads throughout most of Northern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin Today through Tuesday. Use extreme caution if driving, slow down and make sure to have a winter survival kit in your vehicle. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.
