*Flooding caused by ice jams in Southern Cass County is expected to continue Today…Therefore a flood warning is in effect. The flooding was adjacent to the Crow Wing River along the Southern Cass County border. County officials reported that 4 residences had been evacuated and several other homes had to be protected from rising water. There were fluctuations in river levels during the Evening as ice jams developed. As of early Morning…Flows were increasing at the Sylvan and Pillager Dams. Last Evening…Weather observers reported extensive ice in Lake Placid that had not made its way through the river system. Until the ice makes it way through the river…More ice jams will be quite possible.
*Some locations that will experience flooding include rural areas from Motley to Pillager…Including the Lake Placid area. Homes adjacent to the river and lake will want to remain alert for additional ice jams and possible flooding. Ice jams may also begin to affect the area from Pillager to Sylvan as well.
*A flood warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported. Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected. However…All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.
Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges…dips…or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream…even a small one…on foot. To escape rising water move up to higher ground.
