5/10/10: Southwest Cowley County Kansas

Here’s a 3+ minute video I shot while the tornadic supercell was moving through just west of Arkansas City Kansas on Monday, May 10th, 2010. This storm was very intense, the wind was so powerful I thought it was going to tip Dan’s truck over! We really had no other option but to ride out the storm inside his truck. We were all fine after the storm passed by to our east, and his truck suffered no damage.

I also have a question just for fun. Now that you've seen what the plains offers, Would you move from Minnesota down there for the storms if you could?

Non-stop driving Derek, lol 12 hours to get there and around 12 hours to get back to Duluth. Left Sunday Night around 2AM, got back to Duluth around 9AM Tuesday, lol. Oh yes, definately severe winds, I'd estimate at least 60-70 mph! That's a great question, Yes and no lol, I love the four seasons we get here in the Upper Midwest, granted the Plains do get some good ice and snow storms once in a while and they do tend to get more severe weather in the Plains compared to the Upper Midwest, but I think I prefer to live in the Upper Midwest and once in a while chase in the Plains, lol. Thanks for reading my blog!
