Today’s Weather:
High pressure ridge averaging 1026mb extends from Eastern Canada to Northeast Iowa late This Afternoon. Mainly sunny skies were found in our area Today with high temperatures in the low to mid 50s along the North Shore of Lake Superior with mid 50s to low 60s elsewhere. Winds Today were south or east at under 20 mph.
Today’s Upper Level Analysis:
NW 500mb flow dominated the Upper Midwest on this 1st day of October. Deep upper level trough covered the Eastern U.S. while an upper level ridge covered the Northern Plains, Rockies, Central-Southern Plains per RUC model analysis. Note: Temperatures This Afternoon warmed into the 80s and 90s underneath this upper ridge from the Central Dakotas through the Northern Rockies and Western High Plains.
Tonight through Sunday Night:
High pressure will be centered to our southeast with a cold front to our north. Clear to partly cloudy skies are forecasted in our area during this period with lows Tonight in the 30s to lower 40s with some 20s in the typical cold spots. Highs on Sunday will be in the 60s and 70s with lows Sunday Night mainly in the 40s. Winds during this period will be out of the south, southwest or east at under 20 mph.
Extended Forecast:
500mb pattern will amplify next week with a broad upper level ridge covering the Great Lakes while a deep upper level trough heads slowly east across the Western U.S. Southerly flow will occur across the region for several days as we sit to the west of an area of high pressure and to the east of low pressure. High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will be in the 60s and 70s with cooler 50s near Lake Superior thanks to onshore winds which are expected to develop early next week. Low temperatures Monday Night and Tuesday Night will mainly be in the 40s. The earliest chance of some rain for Northern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin looks to be late next week or next weekend.
