Discussion:

Another round of wintry precipitation will affect parts of the Northland late Tonight into Monday Morning.  Temperatures aloft will be very close to 0C while temperatures at the surface hover in the lower 30s.  A mixture of snow, rain and some freezing rain should be the net result.  The greatest chance to see all snow looks like it will be north of Highway 2 once again which would include the Iron Range as well as the North Shore of Lake Superior.  Locations south of Highway 2 could see a variety of precipitation types, ranging from rain to snow to some freezing rain.

Snow and ice accumulations:

1-3″ of snow is possible by mid-Morning Monday.  Ice accumulations less than 0.10″.

Impacts:

Hazardous driving conditions are expected Overnight into Monday Morning.  Some roads will likely become snow and slush covered and slippery.  Use extreme caution if you have travel plans and allow extra time to reach your destination.

-A slight risk for at least 4″ of snow Tonight and Monday Morning in Northeast Minnesota, north of Duluth.  Source, Weather Prediction Center.

-Precipitation forecast thru 1 PM CDT Monday.  The least amounts are forecast in far Northern Minnesota into the Arrowhead where less than 0.20″ of precipitation is forecast.  South of that area, anywhere from 0.20″ to as much as 0.75″ of precipitation is possible by Monday Morning with the heaviest totals focusing over East Central Minnesota through Northern Wisconsin.  (Source, North Central River Forecast Center)
