East to northeast winds will continue at 15 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph This Evening. The strongest winds will be found closer to Lake Superior. Winds will start to subside later Tonight.
A wind advisory means that winds or frequent gusts of 35 to 45 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Today’s Weather Summary for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
A powerful autumn storm has moved little Today with the center of this storm as of 4 PM in Southeast South Dakota with a pressure of 1006mb. Occasional rain, drizzle, some fog, and an isolated thunderstorm or 2 have occurred in the Northland Today with high temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Winds were out of the north or east at 10 to 20 mph with gusts of 35 to 45+ mph near Lake Superior. Note: Per Duluth News Tribune: Several scanner reports of trees down on powerlines in the Duluth area since last night due to the high winds. At the peak of the storm, a little less than 2,000 Minnesota Power customers were were without power, but as of 3:30 PM Today that number dropped to less than 100.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (October 5)
Rain and drizzle with some fog will continue Tonight as strong low pressure at the surface and aloft move very slowly toward the east out of Eastern South Dakota. There’s even some instability present This Evening with elevated CAPE of up to 500 j/kg, this could support an isolated thunderstorm and maybe even some small hail. Lows will be in the 40s and 50s with north or east winds at 10 to 20 mph with 30-45 mph gusts continuing before Midnight closer to Lake Superior.
Sunday and Sunday Night (October 6)
Low pressure and an upper level low pressure system will exit to our east during this period. Showers could linger here and there during the day with mainly dry weather returning for Sunday Night. Highs will be in the 40s and 50s with lows in the 30s and 40s. Winds will be out of the north at 10 to 20 mph.

Monday through Wednesday (October 7-9)
Looks dry during the early-mid part of next week with pleasant high temperatures which will top out in the 50s and 60s which is near to above average for this time of year. Note: May even see a few 70s in parts of the Northland on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows Monday Night and Tuesday Night will be in the 30s and 40s.

Another storm system is forecast to move generally toward the north through the Central/Northern Plains during the 11th-13th time frame, with the center of the low passing west of Minnesota, we should have mild temperatures with possible showers from the 11th-13th. Near to above average temperatures are forecast through this period.
