Location:  

Parts of Northern and East Central Minnesota.

Timing:

2 PM This Afternoon until 4 PM CST Thursday.

Counties included in the advisory:

Koochiching MN
Itasca MN
Cass MN
Crow Wing MN
Aitkin MN
Northern St. Louis MN

Some cities included in the advisory:

International Falls…Bigfork…Togo…Grand Rapids…Cass Lake…Walker…Leader…Pine River…Brainerd…Aitkin…McGregor…Hill City…Ely…and Orr.

Discussion:

Snow will develop This Afternoon and will continue at times Tonight and on Thursday.  In addition to the snow gusty winds will develop…First out of the southwest and then switching to the northwest on Thursday. Wind speeds up to 25 mph are expected with gusts of 30 to 40 mph possible.

Expected snowfall accumulations:

Generally 1-3″ of snow by Thursday with up to 5″ possible in Northern Minnesota…From Bigfork north to International Falls and east to Ely.

Impacts:

Gusty winds will lead to blowing snow with visibility near zero at times especially in open areas that are exposed to wind.  Wind chills will also drop to as low as 30 below Thursday Afternoon.

**This winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow.  Allow extra time to reach your destination**
