Here’s what I’m expecting for snowfall totals by Friday – yes I increased the totals quite a bit from my previous two maps.

*WINTER STORM WARNING*

A winter storm warning has been issued for parts of Northeast and Eastern Minnesota and for all of Northwest Wisconsin.

Timing:
Until 12 PM CST Friday.

Discussion:
Snow will begin from south to north This Afternoon.  Moderate to heavy snow bands will occur from late This Afternoon through early Friday Morning.  Snowfall rates under the heaviest snow bands of 1-2″ per hour are possible.
Total snowfall accumulations:
10-15″ with up to 20″ of snow possible especially over the Arrowhead of Minnesota and over parts of Northwest Wisconsin.
Winds/Visibility:
Northwest winds will increase to 40 mph Tonight and Friday.

Impacts:
Snow covered roads will make driving extremely difficult.  There will be considerable blowing and drifting snow and near whiteout conditions at times from late This Afternoon through Friday Morning.  The snow will be the heavy wet variety.  When clearing snow after the storm make sure you take breaks and drink plenty of water.
The heavy wet snow may bring down tree branches and cause power outages.  Stock up on needed items for your household and non-perishable items.
**A winter storm warning for heavy snow means heavy snow accumulation is anticipated and that snowfall rates of one inch per hour or greater can be expected at times.  Expect snow covered roads and very low visibility.  If you must travel exercise extreme caution and allow extra time to reach your destination**

Discussion:
Snow will continue to develop through the Afternoon hours with snow continuing through early Friday Morning.
Total snowfall accumulations:
A range from 4-10″ of snow is expected by Friday with the greatest amounts across the Eastern portion of the three Counties.

Winds/Visibility:
Increasing winds Thursday Night will cause blowing and drifting snow.
Impacts:

A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of East Central Minnesota.
Timing:
Until 12 PM CST Friday.

Emily
Discussion:
Snow will continue to develop through This Afternoon.  Snow continues Tonight before ending early Friday Morning.
Total snowfall accumulations:
3-5″ of snow is expected.
Winds/Visibility:
Strong northwest winds developing Tonight with gusts over 25 mph.  Blowing snow and reduced visibilities from the strong winds.
Impacts:
Roads will become snow covered from the falling snow and blowing and drifting.
**A winter weather advisory for snow and blowing snow means that visibility will be limited due to a combination of falling and blowing snow.  Use caution when traveling especially in open areas that are more exposed to the wind.  Roads may be slick and hazardous so allow extra time to reach your destination**
