The winter of 2013-14 will be remembered not only for the extreme cold here in Duluth but also for the 2 stretches of very snowy weather.
-The 1st stretch occurred from December 2-4 (3 days) with a snowfall total of 23.3″
-The 2nd stretch occurred from February 13-21 (9 days) with a snowfall total of 27.6“
When you total it up that comes out to 50.9″ of snow in less than 2 weeks time compared to 27″ of snow during the remainder of the winter season.
As has been the case this winter were either getting significant amounts of snow or were very dry. So what’s next? I think you know, yup another stretch of very dry weather, unfortunately it also looks very cold so the snow that is already on the ground won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
Lets take a look back at the LRC winter forecast that I made on November 19.
The one thing that stands out to me is the total snowfall for this winter. The LRC called for 75.7″ of snow and as of Today were sitting at 78.8″ and this probably will be our final total for the winter of 2013-14 which ends unofficially on February 28. Not too bad of a forecast when in comes to predicted snowfall for the season.
Also note my statement at the end on how I thought the LRC snow total for the winter season was just a tad on the high side. Oh you tricky LRC.
By the way here’s a link to that forecast that was made on November 19: http://timsweatherblog.blogspot.com/2013/11/duluth-mn-2013-14-winterweekly-forecast.html
