A northwest flow aloft was in place across the Upper Midwest Today with a weak system and cold front affecting the Northland Today. Sky conditions varied from partly sunny to mostly cloudy and there has been a little bit of snow in parts of the area but accumulations have remained under an inch. Highs Today were in the teens with a few southern locales nearing 20 degrees at 3 PM. Winds were out of the northwest or southwest Today at 10 to around 20 mph.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (February 16)
Low pressure moves E/SE of the area with lingering light snow showers and flurries possible at times under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Lows will range from the teens below to single digits above zero. Winds will be out of the west or northwest at 10 to around 20 mph.
Tuesday and Tuesday Night (February 17)
Arctic high pressure builds southeast into the northern Plains this period as low pressure moves into southeast Ontario. Heights will be dropping into the 498-510 meter range as an arctic airmass invades from the north. Will have partly to mostly cloudy skies Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night with a few snow showers and flurries possible at times. Highs on Tuesday will be in the single digits to around 10 above with lows Tuesday Night in the single digits, teens, and 20s below. Winds will be out of the west or northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Wednesday through Friday (February 18-20)
Arctic high pressure will be in control of our weather for Wednesday and Thursday. Highs on Wednesday will be in the single digits below to around 10 below with lows Wednesday Night in the teens and 20s below. Highs on Thursday will be in the single digits below to single digits above zero with lows Thursday Night in the single digits, teens, and 20s below. Highs on Friday will be in the single digits and teens. Looking generally dry Wednesday and Thursday. Could see some flurries or light snow on Friday but this shouldn’t be a real big deal.

No major storms around here, but that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone. Another minor snow event is possible sometime around the 24th-26th time frame, otherwise expect continued below average temperatures although the cold might begin to ease up just a bit from the 23rd-26th.
