Look at this! Although this is a long ways off, the EUROPEAN model is showing one hell of a warm airmass pushing into the Upper Midwest around March 16th. This map shows the expected 500mb heights valid on March 16th — H5 heights of 570-576 meters over much of Minnesota and Wisconsin — those kinds of heights are more typical of late spring than in March. So based off the 500mb map (Shown above) No surprise that were seeing these kinds of 850mb temperature anomalies on March 16th per 12z EUROPEAN model from Today. Again this is a long way down the road and things could change…But if this were to verify, then most of Minnesota and Wisconsin would likely get into the 60s, maybe even up near 70 degrees on Monday, March 16th. Something to watch in coming days! Note: The pattern for the next several days even prior to March 16th is a mild one, so the snow pack will be going bye-bye in much of the Northland.
