Snow depth map as of March 12, 2015. No surprise with the recent warm-up that the snow pack which wasn’t much to begin with is even less than what it was last week. Source, MNDNR.

Weather Summary for March 13, 2015
Location: Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Low pressure of 1014mb has moved into Western Upper Michigan as of 5 PM with a cold front moving south/east out of Northwest Wisconsin. An upper level trough with 12 hour 500mb height falls of up to 60 meters was passing through the Northland This Afternoon — This feature did bring some rain showers to parts of Northeast Minnesota Today and there may have even been a bit of snow mixed in with the rain in a few spots, although I think the bulk of the precipitation was in the form of rain.
Saw quite a range in high temperatures Today with 50s and 60s in East Central Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin with 30s in the Arrowhead and Borderland regions. Sky conditions varied from mostly cloudy to mostly sunny Today, and winds shifted to the west or northwest at 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts.
Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (March 13)
High pressure moves east out of the Northern Rockies while low pressure heads into Eastern Ontario. Partly to mostly cloudy skies will be found in our area Tonight with lingering showers of rain and or snow possible in far Northeast Minnesota. Low temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s with northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.
Saturday and Saturday Night (March 14)
High pressure will dominate our weather this period resulting in clear-partly cloudy skies. High temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s with 30s in far Northern Minnesota. Lows Saturday Night will be in the 20s and 30s. Winds out of the northwest on Saturday at 10 to 20 mph, winds shift to the south/east Saturday Night at 5 to 15 mph.
Extended Forecast – Confidence: High.
Sunday through Tuesday (March 15-17)
High pressure moves off to our east on Sunday which will allow a cold front and area of low pressure to approach from the west. This system will track through the Northland Sunday Night and Monday. There could be some rain showers around during the Sunday Night-Monday time frame but this doesn’t look like a very big deal. Dry weather returns Monday Night and Tuesday.
High temperatures on Sunday are forecast to be in the 40s and 50s with 60s in Western and Southern parts of the area while the North Shore and Arrowhead remain in the 30s, lows Sunday Night will be in the 30s and 40s. Highs on Monday will be in the 40s and 50s with lows Monday Night in the 20s. Highs on Tuesday will mainly be in the 30s.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: High.
(March 18-23)
Still not seeing any signs that would support a major storm around the area during the long range, in fact most of the period from the 18th-23rd looks fairly dry across the Northland. Near to below average temperatures are forecast.
