Forecast Discussion for Northeast Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin
Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight through Friday Night (March 26-27)
An area of high pressure will control our weather through this period as it moves southeast out of Manitoba. Clear to partly cloudy skies are expected with lows Tonight ranging from the single digits below to teens above zero; highs on Friday will be in the 20s and 30s so similar to Today; lows Friday Night will range from around zero to 20 degrees. Winds will be out of the north Tonight at 5 to 15 mph with north or south winds on Friday and south or east winds Friday Night, wind speeds Tomorrow and Tomorrow Night will generally be less than 15 mph.
Extended Forecast – Confidence: Medium to High.
Saturday through Monday (March 28-30)
Dry weather continues on Saturday with highs in the 30s and 40s. Changes occur Saturday Night and Sunday as strong low pressure moves through Ontario while a cold front tracks through the Northland. Will likely see some precipitation occur with this system from late Saturday Night into Sunday Morning. Rain or wet snow is possible during that period and there is a chance for a light accumulation of snow — Probably in the coating to 2″ range over far Northeast Minnesota and also in parts of Northwest Wisconsin. The rest of the area is expected to get rain the way it looks now. All of this precipitation should move off to the south/east by Sunday Afternoon.
A clipper system approaching from the northwest could bring another round of rain or wet snow to parts of the Northland Monday Night.
High temperatures on Sunday are forecast to be in the 40s with highs on Monday in the 40s to around 50 degrees. Lows Saturday Night will be in the 30s with lows Sunday Night in the 20s and 30s.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Low to Medium.
(March 31-April 5)
Tuesday the 31st looks dry. A storm system could affect the Northland from Tuesday Night-Thursday Morning with possible rain or even some snow. Note: The 12z EUROPEAN model shows quite a bit of snow in our area with several inches of accumulation possible centered on Wednesday (April 1) There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the track of this system, as well as the temperatures so stay tuned in coming days for updated information.
Near to above average temperatures on the 31st with near to below average temps from April 1-5.
