High pressure built south out of Ontario today. Low clouds earlier in the day in parts of the area gave way to a mixture of sun/mid-high level clouds. Smoke wasn’t as thick today although there remains a hint of haze/smoke in the air but the plume of thicker smoke was west of the Northland today. High temperatures on this final day of June 2015 were in the 60s and 70s with north or east winds at 5 to 15 mph.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight through Wednesday Night (June 30-July 1)
High pressure will cover the Western Great Lakes through this period. Partly cloudy skies are forecast with lows Tonight in the 40s and 50s but a few 30s are possible in the traditional cold spots. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 70s with cooler temperatures near Lake Superior. Lows Wednesday Night will be in the 50s to around 60. Winds will be out of the north, east, or south at 5 to 15 mph. Note: A few spotty showers could develop Wednesday Afternoon in far Western-Northwest areas including the Bigfork, Northome, International Falls area. Haze/smoke is also possible across the Northland through Wednesday Night.

Thursday through Saturday (July 2-4)
A few spotty showers or thunderstorms are possible on Thursday mainly over Northern Minnesota. Highs on Thursday will be in the 70s to lower 80s with lows Thursday Night in the 50s and lower 60s.
Will see a cold front push south toward the area on Friday…Moisture should increase near this boundary with dew points possibly reaching or exceeding 60 degrees. Instability looks rather high as well with CAPE of 1000-2000 j/kg possible by Friday PM. A few showers or thunderstorms could develop in parts of the area on Friday with the moist and unstable airmass overhead combined with some weak lift provided by the approaching frontal boundary. Highs on Friday will be in the 70s and 80s with lows Friday Night in the 50s and 60s.
The 4th of July could feature a few spotty showers or thunderstorms in our area but overall things are looking pretty good on Independence Day. Highs on Saturday will be in the 70s and 80s.

A few showers or thunderstorms are possible on Sunday (5th) as a cold front moves into the Upper Midwest. Mainly dry conditions are expected from the 6th-10th the way it looks now. Above average temperatures on the 5th followed by near to below average temperatures from the 6th-10th.
