Weather Summary for NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin

Much of the Northland received some rain late last night and this morning but the rain has decreased in coverage and intensity from NW-SE this afternoon, in fact there’s been some clearing this afternoon in portions of Northern Minnesota with generally mostly cloudy skies continuing elsewhere. High temperatures weren’t too bad on this second to last day of March — Highs were in the 40s to low 50s and winds were out of the south or north at 5 to 15 mph. The weather map late this afternoon had low pressure of 996mb in far Southeast Nebraska.

Short Term Forecast – Confidence: High.
Tonight (March 30)
Low pressure tracks from far Southeast Nebraska to far Southwest Wisconsin tonight. There is a chance for light rain at times in Eastern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin, some of the rain could become mixed with snow toward daybreak. Low temperatures will mainly be in the 30s with north or east winds at 5 to 15 mph but higher gusts are possible late tonight near Lake Superior.
Thursday and Thursday night (March 31)
An area of low pressure will move through Southern Wisconsin tomorrow morning and is forecast to move into Eastern Canada by late Thursday night — This system could bring some rain or wet snow to parts of Northwest Wisconsin tomorrow.
Another system will drop south/east out of the Northern Plains and this one could bring some rain to Western-Southwest portions of the Northland on Thursday and a rain/snow mix to those areas Thursday night.
There is also a chance for some patchy drizzle or a few rain/snow showers near Lake Superior tomorrow.
All in all not a real nice last day of March but precipitation that does fall should be fairly light, and snow accumulations if any look very marginal in our area.
Highs on Thursday will be in the 30s and 40s with 50s possible toward the Brainerd Lakes. Lows Thursday night will be in the 20s and 30s. Winds will be out of the north, east or northwest at 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts possible tomorrow near Lake Superior.

Friday through Sunday (April 1-3)
A light snowfall event is possible Friday night and on Sunday. A northwest flow aloft will develop this weekend with chilly temperatures to kick off the month of April — A quick moving area of low pressure is forecast to drop southeast into the Northland Friday night exiting to the east Saturday morning, a shot of snow Friday night or early Saturday morning with snowfall amounts of a coating to 2″ possible.
Another system moves east/southeast out of the Northern Plains on Sunday, this one could also bring light snowfall accumulations to parts of the Northland late in the weekend.
Highs on Friday will be in the 30s to around 40 degrees, lows Friday night will be in the teens and 20s. Highs on Saturday will be in the 20s and 30s with lows Saturday night in the teens and 20s. Highs on Sunday are forecast to be in the 20s and 30s.
Long Range Forecast – Confidence: Medium.

Below average temperatures are expected during the long range. Rain or snow is possible during the middle of next week (5th-7th)
