A cool mid July day under a blanket of clouds thanks to a lingering upper level trough over the region. More showers too with the most widespread rain at 4 PM along and south of a line from around Brainerd to Shell Lake and north of a line from St. Cloud to Chippewa Falls — That area of rain is sinking slowly toward the south/east late this afternoon. Highs today were generally in the 60s with north or northwest winds at 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight (July 14)
Mostly cloudy skies to continue although some clearing may eventually develop in parts of the Northland. Scattered showers mostly during the evening hours. Lows in the 50s but 40s are possible in the typical cold spots. Winds out of the north or west at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday (July 15)
A little more sun on the way for Friday but still expecting a good deal of clouds to linger over most of the area. Can’t rule out a few spotty showers during the afternoon-evening hours. Highs in the 60s and 70s with lows in the 50s except 40s in the typical cold spots. Winds will be out of the west except for onshore winds around Lake Superior.

Mainly dry during the day on Saturday with highs in the 70s to around 80 degrees. Low pressure along with a surface trough is forecast to pass through the Upper Midwest Saturday night and Sunday, this system could bring some showers or thunderstorms to the Northland later in the weekend. Dew points climbing into the 60s with PWATS possibly greater than 1.50″ could lead to a heavy rain threat if storms develop.
