Weather Synopsis for northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin
Partly to mostly cloudy skies were found over the area today with highs in the 20s to lower 30s. There were a few flurries which passed through parts of the Northland today, and there was also a few hours of very strong winds this morning along the North Shore of Lake Superior, especially from Two Harbors, northeast to Grand Marais with wind gusts of 40+ mph reported close to the lake.
Light snow on the way! A couple areas of low pressure combined with a cold front and a strengthening disturbance digging SE out of Saskatchewan and Manitoba will go on to produce one or two rounds of snow over parts of the Northland from this evening into mid afternoon Sunday. Most locations will pick up about a half inch to inch of new snow by Sunday but where the two bands of snow overlap, snow totals could reach 2 or even 3 inches…This looks most likely to occur along or south of the Highway 2 corridor in northeast Minnesota.
The snow will end Sunday afternoon and will be replaced by some sunshine later in the day as high pressure moves into Minnesota.
Low temperatures tonight will be in the teens and 20s with highs Sunday in the 20s and 30s. Lows Sunday night will be in the single digits, teens and 20s.
Temperatures will warm into the 30s, possibly even a few 40s on Monday. Could be some light snow in northern Minnesota with dry weather expected elsewhere.
Another opportunity for some snow or mixed precipitation comes on Tuesday as a disorganized system tracks through the Plains and upper Midwest — Early indications are for about 1 to 4 inches of snow in some parts of the Northland on Tuesday.
