Here’s the latest track for Hurricane Harvey as of 4 PM CDT, August 24, 2017 (See map below) Winds at 85 mph as of late Thursday afternoon. Harvey is forecast to strengthen to a Major Hurricane before making landfall Friday night or Saturday morning in south Texas. Weather Synopsis
Lots of attention given to Hurricane Harvey but there is weather to talk about here in the Northland so lets get to it — A cool but pleasant late summer day across the area under mostly sunny skies. Highs were in the 60s with a few spots reaching 70 degrees.
Mostly clear and cool tonight with patchy frost possible toward daybreak in the typical cold spots away from Lake Superior. Lows tonight will be in the 30s and 40s with slightly warmer temperatures close to Lake Superior. Could also be some patchy fog later tonight.
Changes start to take place Friday as deeper moisture begins to lift northeast into our area as southerly winds develop ahead of low pressure over the northern Plains and west of an area of high pressure over the eastern Great Lakes — A few showers are possible Friday especially over western-southern parts of the Northland, and these shower chances will continue Friday night while expanding farther north/east. Partly to mostly cloudy skies Friday, and mostly cloudy Friday night.
Highs Friday will range from the upper 50s to upper 60s with the warmest temperatures likely found in far northern Minnesota where a few locations could hit 70 degrees.
Occasional rain Saturday and Sunday as a slow moving surface and upper level low pressure system tracks east/northeast through the upper Midwest — High temps in the mid 50s to mid 60s which is roughly 10-15 degrees below normal for late August. The clouds and rain will keep overnight lows on the mild side, however.
