18z NAM valid for Wednesday afternoon
Note: A top 5 warmest high temperature on record for October 17 at International Falls, Minnesota today. High temperature was 72 degrees which ties with October 17, 1924 and October 17, 1906 for 5th warmest high temperature on record. The record high for October 17 is 82 degrees set in 1961.
Picture perfect mid October weather continues around here. Just a few clouds at times today but overall skies were mostly sunny today with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s.
Deep low pressure of 984mb was over eastern Alberta Province early this evening — This low will continue to strengthen as it moves east with pressures lowering to 970-975mb Wednesday as the low moves through central Manitoba Province — With the low off to our northwest, this will keep the Northland in the warm sector with mild temperatures continuing Wednesday, this despite a cold front which will move through the area during the day.
Lows tonight will be in the 40s to lower 50s but a few 30s can’t be ruled out in the typical cold spots. Highs Wednesday will range from the lower 60s in far northern Minnesota to the mid 60s to low 70s in east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin.
A warm front will move through the Northland Thursday which will put us back in the warm sector once again on Friday before a cold front moves through on Saturday — More moisture and better forcing is forecast with this next cold front on Saturday which should lead to some rain showers from late Friday night into Saturday. Note: There could also be a few thunderstorms during the Friday night-Saturday time frame with some elevated instability and steep mid level lapse rates over the upper Midwest.
Highs Thursday will range from the mid 50s to upper 60s with highs Friday in the mid 60s to mid 70s with cooler temperatures along the North Shore of Lake Superior.
