Still enough open water/heat flux for lake effect clouds/snow showers to develop today over central/eastern portions of Lake Superior.  Quite a bit of ice has formed recently over northern but more so over western portions of Lake Superior, and ice coverage over the entire lake as of Sunday morning (February 4) was ~25%.

Weather Synopsis
The pattern ahead is a good one for cold weather fans, but not a good one if you prefer milder temperatures along with some snow.  This afternoon high pressure covered the central Plains with some warm air advection occurring north of that high across the upper Midwest.  850mb temperatures at 1 PM today were sitting around -22C in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin while surface temperatures were within a few degrees of zero either above or below.
Through Tuesday:  One area of high pressure currently to our south-southwest will shift off to the east tonight which will make way for a trough/cold front to move south through the Northland on Monday, and that will be followed by a new arctic high which will build southeast into the upper Midwest by Tuesday.
A few clouds from time to time tonight through Tuesday but will also have some sun once again both Monday and Tuesday.  Can’t rule out a few snow flurries through Tuesday but nothing that would accumulate.
Lows tonight will be in the single digits and teens below zero with 20s below possible in the typical cold spots, highs Monday in the single digits and teens above zero, lows Monday night in the teens, 20s and 30s below zero, highs Tuesday in the single digits and teens above zero.
