Weather Synopsis

High pressure was over the Ohio Valley early this evening with a new area of high pressure building southeast out of the northern Rockies, this high will move southeast through the northern Plains Wednesday before exiting to the southeast by Thursday.  There will be a weak system moving through the upper Midwest tonight, and that could bring a little bit of snow to parts of the Northland but accumulations should remain under an inch.

Lows tonight will be in the single digits, teens and 20s below zero with the coldest temperatures expected to remain over far northern Minnesota.  Highs Wednesday will be in the single digits and teens.

Note:  One of the bigger weather stories right now is the amount of ice that covers Lake Superior.  This current cold snap has really helped to produce rapid ice growth over the lake during the past week or so, and as of Tuesday morning, over 50% of Lake Superior was covered by ice, this is quite a bit above average for early February.  The ice coverage on Lake Superior has been fluctuating quite a bit this winter due to the frequent changes in temperatures from frigid to very mild!
