Certainly a fall feel across the Northland this afternoon with temperatures only in the middle 50s, plus a gusty NE wind! Temperatures this afternoon are more typical of what you’d see in early October instead of in early August, our average highs on August 1 are in the mid to upper 70s!

Weather Synopsis
An impressive cold front passed through the Northland early this morning with temperatures this afternoon a good 20 to 30 degrees colder compared to Tuesday afternoon. Skies were generally mostly cloudy today with fog and some drizzle near Lake Superior with occasional rain showers elsewhere, but most of the showers have moved out of the area as of 6 PM, the exception down near the Hayward Lakes and Ashland areas in northwest Wisconsin where some showers continued to fall.
Most of tonight should be mostly cloudy although some clearing may work into western areas during the night. Areas of drizzle and light rain showers lingering tonight especially near Lake Superior but this activity should come to an end Thursday morning.
Lows tonight in the 40s and 50s with 30s possible if skies clear early enough in parts of northern Minnesota. Highs Thursday in the 60s to around 70 degrees, warmer than today but still below average for early August. Northerly wind Thursday morning switches to the south during the afternoon as high pressure moves south/east out of Minnesota.
Friday through Sunday looks more like summer as we get into a more humid weather pattern with dew points rising into the 60s, possibly up to around 70 degrees Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures may not be terribly warm, however, as clouds and precipitation could keep us from getting too warm, regardless we should have high temps at least in the 70s Friday through Sunday with 80s possible if we have clearer skies and less rain. The overall pattern will feature a warm front and cold front over the upper Midwest with higher CAPE (instability) and stronger winds aloft this weekend which could fuel some strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the Northland from Friday through Sunday.
