A few showers possible Friday and Saturday but overall a dry pattern into next week

18z NAM 3km model simulated radar forecast thru 7 PM Saturday.

We are seeing a few showers and an isolated thunderstorm or two this afternoon over eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota with movement of this rain generally toward the north/east.

A desert like air mass over the Northland today with relative humidity values of only 15 to 25% across the area, with some locations even below 15% this afternoon.

Note: Duluth, Minnesota had the same dew point temperature as Phoenix, Arizona at 4 PM CT today. Both locations had a dew point of just 25 degrees!

With how dry it is, the fire danger remains very high across much of Minnesota with extreme fire danger in parts of northern Minnesota (red area on map)

Very high fire danger also covered all of northwest Wisconsin today.

An upper level ridge was over the Great Lakes today while NW flow aloft covered the Northern Plains.

A few disturbances over the Northern Plains this afternoon will be moving east and over the upper Midwest Friday and Saturday bringing a chance for some rain showers to parts of the Northland, but it still doesn’t look like will be seeing any heavy rain or all days rains with this setup.

Goes-16 water vapor loop from Thursday, May 13, 2021.
