Certainly saw an increase in the Greenwood fire this afternoon, with the smoke plume showing up nicely on Goes-16 visible imagery Wednesday afternoon.
Smoke plume from the Greenwood fire was also showing up on Duluth’s doppler radar for a few hours Wednesday afternoon.

- Greenwood fire is approximately 4,000 acres in size as of late Wednesday afternoon, August 18
- Greenwood fire is showing signs of growth on the western side
- Structure protection is in place along the Highway 2 corridor
- Reports of the Greenwood fire getting closer to people living on Sand Lake
- If you’ve been displaced by the Greenwood fire, there is a temporary evacuation point set up by the Minnesota Red Cross team in Finland
In addition to the Greenwood fire, other fires continue to burn today, including the John Elk and Whelp fires, and a new fire started today near Britt, Minnesota (Moose Lake fire)
Temps in the mid 80s to around 90 degrees will occur once again Thursday afternoon and Friday afternoon along with a breezy south wind.
A round of rain is likely over the Greenwood fire sometime late Friday night/Saturday morning, but rainfall amounts are still somewhat uncertain.
A gusty northwest wind develops on Saturday, but until then expect southerly winds to continue, which will push the Greenwood fire farther north Thursday and Friday.
