Winter Storm Update

The snow is here, and it probably won’t stop snowing until late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. I did increase snow totals for Duluth to 12-18 inches with a possibility for even higher amounts.

Gusty east to northeast winds are likely especially near Lake Superior today into this evening with wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph (possibly higher) Areas of blowing and drifting snow are likely near Lake Superior today with a chance for near whiteout/blizzard conditions at times especially from late this morning into early this evening.

Snow has started to fall in Duluth as of 4 AM this morning — Radar loop ending at 4:06 AM Monday (heavier snowfall in green)

Note: We’re also seeing some lake effect snow over southwest Lake Superior early this morning with ENE winds pushing that band of lake effect snow southwest into the Twin Ports.

It’ll likely take into this afternoon before the snow reaches far northern Minnesota and the Arrowhead and then will see the snow diminish across northern Minnesota later tonight, but farther south from east-central Minnesota to the Twin Ports and in all of northwest Wisconsin it looks like it’ll snow all the way through late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning before we see the snow diminish.

Here is my updated snowfall forecast for this winter storm.

Snowfall totals will diminish significantly the farther north you go and it’s possible the gradients will be even tighter than what my forecast is showing.

Note: Maximum snow totals of 20 to 25 inches are possible in some locations that are in the 12-to-18-inch zone.

SREF snowfall plume forecast has remained very consistent in showing total snowfall amounts of around 2 feet in Duluth by Wednesday morning.
